Bioinformatics tools

This page is a placeholder, or under current development; it is here principally to establish the logical framework of the site. The material on this page is correct, but incomplete.

While a Web browser may the single most important tool for bioinformatics in a laboratory context, a few other tools are needed in the toolkit. These include:

  • The molecular visualizer VMD
  • The EMBOSS package of sequence manipulation and analysis tools
  • Jalview, a multiple sequence alignment editor
  • The statistics workbench and programming language R
  • The programming language Perl
  • The Phylip package of phylogeny tools
