"Classroom" Participation
Active participation is essential for your own learning outcomes and for the course as a whole. Your participation mark is a significant component of the final mark.
- 2 marks are given if you show up for the first class. This is silly, but I do need everyone in the room to be able to organize this course.
- 50% of the remainder participation mark will be based on your contribution to quiz questions.
- The remainder will reflect my impression of the quality of your contributions to the course. This is not calculated mechanically. Opportunities to contribute include
- consistent, active participation in class;
- substantial contribution to discussions;
- active participation on the course mailing list such as
- questions about the material;
- answers and comments;
- hints and pointers to interesting and useful resources.
- Asking questions does not show ignorance, it shows interest.
You can find more hints on the effective use of mailing lists in the Netiquette page.
