"Classroom" Participation

Active participation is essential for your own learning outcomes and for the course as a whole. Your participation mark is a significant component of the final mark.

20% of your participation mark is given if you show up for the first class. This is silly, but I do need everyone in the room to be able to organize this course.

40% of your participation mark will be based on your contribution to quiz questions.
For the remaining 40% I will evaluate
  • regular attendance in class-sessions;
  • substantial contribution to discussions;
  • active participation on the course mailing list. Such participation can include
    • questions about the material;
    • answers and comments;
    • hints and pointers to interesting and useful resources.

Asking questions does not show ignorance, it shows interest.

You can find more hints on the effective use of mailing lists in the Netiquette page.
