Bioinformatics tools

While a Web browser may the single most important tool for bioinformatics in a laboratory context, a few other tools are needed in the toolkit. These include:
- The molecular visualizer VMD
- The EMBOSS package of sequence manipulation and analysis tools
- Jalview, a multiple sequence alignment editor
- The statistics workbench and programming language R
- The programming language Perl
- The Phylip package of phylogeny tools
