Course Participation

Active participation is essential for your own learning outcomes and for the course as a whole. Your participation mark is a significant component of the final mark.

2 marks are given if you show up for the first class. This is silly, but I do need everyone in the room to be able to organize this course.
The remainder will reflect my impression of the quality of your contributions to the course. This is not calculated mechanically. Opportunities to contribute include
  • consistent, active participation in class;
  • substantial contribution to discussions;
  • active participation on the course mailing list such as
    • questions about the material;
    • answers and comments;
    • hints and pointers to interesting and useful resources.

Grading rubrics for other contributions apply in spirit.

Asking questions does not show ignorance, it shows interest.

You can find more hints on the effective use of mailing lists in the Netiquette page.
