Abstract:

Introductory concepts and exercises for creating graphics with R.

Objectives:
This unit will ...

  • ... introduce concepts of graphics for data visualization and descrptive statistics;
  • ... teach basic plotting methods;

Outcomes:
After working through this unit you ...

  • ... know where to find models of good data visualization;
  • ... can create and customize basic plots in R;

Deliverables:

  • Time management: Before you begin, estimate how long it will take you to complete this unit. Then, record in your course journal: the number of hours you estimated, the number of hours you worked on the unit, and the amount of time that passed between start and completion of this unit.

    Task:

    • Read the introductory notes on graphics in R and concepts of graphics for descriptive statistics.
    • Load the R-Exercise_BasicSetup project in RStudio if you don't already have it open.
    • Type init() as instructed after the project has loaded.
    • Work through the plottingIntro.R script.
